Tens of thousands of fans were in Bridgestone Arena for Winter Jam 2011, the biggest Christian music tour in the country Sunday. We caught up with the performers backstage before the show kicked off as they were gearing up for the sellout crowd.
[…]
Castro was one of 10 headliners performing at this year’s Winter Jam. “Well it’s a lot of fun you know,” Castro said. “When you love music…every day you get to play music is really just a blessing and something that makes me smile.”

And a little more about Reading’s WinterJam…

This one is a review from the Lehigh Valley Music blog. The reviewer found the concert as a whole something of a “mixed bag”, but there was nothing mixed about his opinion of Jason’s set:

[O]pener Jason Castro, the dreadlocked fourth-place finisher on 2009’s “American Idol,” was both surprisingly good on “Who I Am” and Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah,” which he famously sang on the show, and surprisingly explicit about his beliefs on the song “You Are.”

He was both contemporary and Christian.

WinterJam at Reading, PA

Apparently there was a bit of drama at WinterJam 2011 last night in Reading–the show sold out, leaving hundreds of disgruntled fans outside with no chance of hearing the concert. So (according to various tweets) the David Crowder Band, Christ August, and Jason came out and gave them a little impromptu mini-concert:

Check out Jason’s face when some of the audience starts singing along with him!

Now, here’s a photo from the Reading show (inside, this time):

It’s from PoP dEfLaToRs‘s Facebook page–click the clicky and see the full-size photo plus several more from the show.

And last…BOOTLEG! (It’s definitely from WinterJam, and it was posted yesterday, but it MIGHT be from an earlier show. The videographer doesn’t say for sure.):

ETA: More bootleg from Reading has surfaced! Here’s a nice clip of “You Are”:

Thanks to Dakota for bringing us the tweets about the extra performance, to Jasonized for finding the video clip of the impromptu concert, to Musiclova for the photos and the Hallelujah video, and to faith for the You Are clip!

Billboard update!

am not the only person who considers 20 weeks a significant milestone–Billboard has moved “You Are” over to their Christian Recurrents chart. That chart does not seem to be available to the general public*, but I do have this to show you:

#1, see?

(*If someone knows how I can access this chart, please let me know! Thankyouverymuch…)
